Highlights:
- The significant events of the year, 1993 were the
workshop of the Meitei/ Meetei Mayek (5 days) on 26 November to 30th
November, 1993 and the 5 days Exhibition on Archaic Manipuri
manuscripts (26 to 39 Nov.,’93) at the State Museum. Shri H.V.
Goswami, Chief Secretary (Advisor to the Governor) was the Chief
Guest of the Inauguration and Shri P. Sharatchandra (Secretary, Art
& Culture) was the President on this occasion. The Chief Guest
released the following two remarkable books.
(i)
A History of Manipur police, 1892-1972.
(ii)
Manipur during World war-II (1941-45) Socio-Economic change
and Local Responses.
Another
noteworthy event of the year was the mounting of an exhibition,
“The archaic Manuscripts of Manipur” under the custody of
Manipur State Archives.

The
Archives Library accessioned twenty thousand books. Out of these
twelve thousand books were transferred by the Secretariat and
Library and law Department Library from the Secretariat.

Research Services:
The
Research Room of the State Archives is remained open to the Research
Scholars on all working days from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Many
Scholars/Individual/ Govt. Officials visited to the research room.
Many
search cases also found by the research section. The newly enrolled
search cases are 42 in numbers.

Many
books are published by the State archives.

8.
Record Management:
For
the improvement of records Management, the State archives carefully
continued in the field of appraisal of non-current records, scrutiny
and vetting of retention schedule of records of functional nature,
Inspection of Departmental records/Semi Government
records/Individuals and tendering advice on various aspects of
records management. During this period the State Archives appraised
Department, Forest Department, Education Department, Law Department,
Jail Department, Agriculture Department, Revenue Department,
Industry Department, Medical Department and fishery Department. Of
all these Departments, this office appraised 20,102 pages. Retention
schedule for records also maintained.
The
State Archives inspected the following Departments:-(i) Assembly
Secretariat, (ii) Manipur State Kala Academi, (iii) Peoples’
Museum, Kakching and (iv) Dhanamanjuri College (Science).
9.
Reprographic/ Xeroxing services:
The State Archives has
no the facility of Microfilm
Camera. But this official is using the Xeroxing of Record from
different Departments/ Semi Govt. offices/Individuals. This office
collected the records in Xeroxing about ten thousand pages from the
above noted offices.
10.
Conservation:
The Conservation
Unit has done the following works:- repair 860 sheets, guarding 1865
sheets, stitching 250 volumes of books, Gazettes and laminations 30
sheets.
11.
Archives Week Celebration:
During the year, the
Department organized an Exihibition as a routine programme. On the
exhibition highlighted the “archaic scripts” to the society.
12.
